Good news if you’ve got an RX 9070 XT, since AMD’s latest driver, RADEON Software 25.6.3, delivers a performance boost. Indeed, a fellow videographer has measured significant gains in gaming with this latest version. Is AMD’s software like a fine wine? Does it improve with age?
RX 9070 XT: performance gains with the latest driver!
In terms of performance, then, our colleague measures sometimes significant improvements in the card’s performance. As we can see, on a panel of 16 games, we find gains of up to 27% on Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered in 1440p. Likewise, Counter-Strike 2 and Hogwarts Legacy are the other two games with the biggest framerate gains, with +23 and +18% respectively. On average, at 1440p, an overall improvement of 9% was measured.
In UHD, the differences are far less significant, with overall gains averaging 4%. Of the sixteen games on the panel, seven show no improvement in performance, while Counter-Strike 2 continues to benefit most from the new driver, with a 14% gain. Next, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 saw its performance improve by 13%, compared with 10% for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. In short, we don’t need to draw you a picture, but when it comes to graphics cards, software is just as important as hardware. On this subject, we can cite the case of Moore Threads, a Chinese GPU manufacturer whose software was, in its early days, a mess. The hardware wasn’t very well exploited and performance wasn’t very good, especially in view of power consumption. However, by working on the subject, the startup managed to improve the situation by proposing significant gains for its hardware. Admittedly, an MTT S80 is not on a par with NVIDIA hardware, even older-generation hardware, but it’s still a lot better.
